The Matterhorn is this really cool looking mountain in the Alps. It looks really lame from the Italian side, but really great from the Swiss side! The skiing here is very different from the U.S. It's less about exploring different trails (pistes) and more about taking in the views and leisurely touring around. I'd equate it more to casual hiking with skis, as opposed to something a bit more active like mountain biking. Which meant, essentially, that trails were a lot longer and easier to get down. There was more challenging terrain as well but that was the really cool part - an entire area will be open for skiing and it'll have a "suggested route" almost, but the whole thing will be open to explore. These areas were huge, and honestly I stayed pretty much on the suggested routes :)
This year it will be the 150th Anniversary or the First Matterhorn Ascent. Which meant that there was a lot of cool stuff going ton and will be even more in 2015.
