En Guete!

En Guete! is the Swiss form of Bon Appetit! And my goodness - did we eat. At first I wasn't expecting too much out of Swiss food (besides chocolate, of course) but I underestimated the pure goodness of cheese and meat. I can barely talk about the chocolate right now because I've eaten all I brought back with me and it's heartbreaking.

Would you like to pick up a $200 tin of caviar on the way home? You can do that in Switzerland.

Lunch in Cervinia, Italy on New Years Day was quite the experience! Zermatt is connected to Italy over the Alps, open in good weather. Fortunately we got to pop over there a few days. Their facilities however were.... different. A lot more people were just learning or starting out how to ski, and overall the mountain was less challenging.

BUT. CLEARLY. A state of the art ski resort does not need to be the top priority in Italy where the main point of skiing is to get to different glorious lunch restaurants. We went to Chalet Etoile where the waitstaff was courteous and the food decadent. It made me want to lay out on one of their chairs outside and take a nap (as many people were doing)

This is my favorite purchase from the trip. It has a painting of the iconic (apparently - it's a bit ugly in my opinion but this is a great painting!) Grossmünster church.
